During hot water tournaments, extra livewell care is needed.
This tip will go a long way to the health of your bass during the tournament day and after
release. Fill your livewell at your first stop and add Rejuvenade (1 teaspoon per 10 gallons).
Close the livewell so no new water may enter and turn on the re-circulator.
As the day warms and you add fish two things happen, the water temperature in the livewell
rises and the oxygen levels will begin to deteriorate. To counter this you must change out
half the livewell water to add more oxygen and bring the temperature down by adding ice
(usually a couple of handfuls of ice will do). To maintain cooler water after you have
brought it down with ice, add Catch N Cool blocks. Catch N Cool blocks do not melt as fast
as ice and last longer. During this change period add one more teaspoon of Rejuvenade.
This change should be done more often if the water temp is hotter than the weather. I
check the water temp and color of water every hour or so during the day. When moving or
adding fish make sure you are not pumping hot water from the surface of the lake into your
well. This tip does not take much time and will help you at the weight in line and help your
fish resume active feeding and metabolic functions after release.Hot Water Livewell Care
